One of the hardest things about being a New Orleans Pelicans fan is the physical act of watching the team play. Friday’s news will provide a much easier path to seeing games for some fans, however.
In a report from Jesse Brooks of FOX 8 NOLA, a deal was announced between DIRECTTV and Gulf Coast Sports & Entertainment Network.
Across 14 markets spanning from Shreveport, LA to Birmingham, AL, the cable provider will now air GCSEN beginning this fall. This will be the home of all non-national network Pelicans games this year.
As of now, New Orleans has just two national games planned. A Dec. 12 home game against the San Antonio Spurs on Peacock and a Jan. 30 home game against the Memphis Grizzlies on ESPN.
GCSEN launched in October of 2024 and replaced the much-maligned Bally Sports as the new home of Pelicans games. They also have programming that fits the needs of fans across the Gulf Coast.
The official start date of GCSEN on DIRECTTV is not yet known, but the plan is for it appear for customers ahead of the first game of the season.
New Orleans will kick off the season on Oct. 22 on the road against the Memphis Grizzlies at 7:00 pm CT.
This should be an interesting Pelicans team to watch in that the season could play out in any number of ways.
Joe Dumars is trying to build as competitive of a roster as possible despite the team winning just 21 games a year ago.
Now, fans of New Orleans with DIRECTTV will have a new way to see the team play.
