The New Orleans Pelicans are now just 41 days until the start of the 2025 NBA season.
To celebrate, it is time to count down the days together by looking at the history of the Pelicans and the No. 41 with players and important games in New Orleans' past.
While 41 is an odd jersey number and doesn't have an extensive history, there is a new player joining the Pelicans this year with that number.
Bey feels like an afterthought of the Jordan Poole-CJ McCollum trade, but he could be a major piece of the puzzle if he can return to form.
The 26-year-old was the No. 19 overall pick in the 2020 NBA draft by the Detroit Pistons. He was a Rookie of the Year and had a fantastic sophomore campaign, but it has all really been downhill from there.
He was traded to the Atlanta Hawks in 2023, where his usage rate dropped. He reached peak of a solid role player.
Bey signed a three-year, $20 million deal with the Washington Wizards in 2024, but he never actually played for the team. Now he enters a situation in New Orleans where there are more mouths to feed again, and he will mostly be a bench piece.
The North Carolina native will basically go a year-and-a-half between NBA game appearances. He was struggling before tearing his ACL, as well.
Bey will hope to find some more consistency from deep with the Pelicans. He was a 36.1% shooter during his first three years, and that dropped to 31.6% in his final campaign.
If he does find his stroke again, he could end up as a very valuable role player that not many people are talking about.
There have been just two players in franchise history to don the jersey number before. James Posey was the first to do so from 2008 to 2010 and then player-coach Garrett Temple wore it from 2021 to 2023.
Posey spent two years with the New Orleans Hornets later in his career as a bench piece. He competed for a sixth-man award during his first season in the city.
Temple also spent two of his twilight years in New Orleans. He was a bit more involved his first year, but has really transformed into an additional coach who will occasionally hit the floor.
