Last season, the Pistons scored the second-most fast break points in the NBA last season, and Detroit has been eager to jumpstart the transition offense in two preseason games so far. In the preseason opener on Monday, the Pistons outscored the Grizzlies on the fast break by a 26-10 clip, and that is emblematic of the speedy tempo that Detroit is looking to showcase during the 2025-26 season.
Recently, a graphic was posted on X that highlights Detroit's success in the transition game.
On the graph, the Pistons rank in the top quadrant for both transition frequency and transition efficiency, which shows that Detroit not only jumpstarts the fast break often but does so at a high level.
The plan is for the Pistons to play a trio of Ausar Thompson, Jaden Ivey and Ron Holland II regularly this season, and that group offers one of the quickest fast breaks in the NBA according to head coach J.B. Bickerstaff, who said as much during preseason interviews.
