An NBA trade idea sending Giannis Antetokounmpo from the Milwaukee Bucks to the San Antonio Spurs has been created.
Andy Bailey of Bleacher Report proposed that the Spurs trade Devin Vassell, Keldon Johnson, Stephon Castle, a 2028 first-round pick, a 2030 first-round pick, a 2032 first-round pick and six second-round picks to the Bucks for Antetokounmpo.
"Giannis Antetokounmpo may want to find his way to the Knicks, but the San Antonio Spurs are the most interesting possible destination," Bailey wrote. "Just imagine a frontcourt with Giannis and Wemby. It would be the most terrifying combination of length and athleticism the league has ever seen.
"And though things might be a tad cramped with De'Aaron Fox's penchant for slashing, Wemby's developing outside shot could create enough space to overcome that. For the Bucks, this framework gives them a potential cornerstone talent in Stephon Castle, multiple young-ish wings who might have trade value down the line and loads of draft capital."
An NBA executive has heard that the Spurs are saving their trade assets for Antetokounmpo. The Bucks have won just one playoff series since winning the 2021 championship against the Phoenix Suns.
Antetokounmpo evaluated his future in Milwaukee this offseason, so he can do it again next offseason if the Bucks don't compete for the championship this season.
"Once LeBron (James), Steph (Curry) and KD (Kevin Durant) retire, Wemby (Victor Wembanyama) is going to become the face of the NBA and dominate the league for the next 10 to 15 years," an NBA executive told Roundtable. "I think he's going to win multiple MVPs and Defensive Player of the Year Awards.
"I also heard that the Spurs are saving all of their trade assets for Giannis. If they get Giannis next to Wemby, you are looking at the next NBA dynasty."
The Bucks, of course, will only trade Antetokounmpo if he requests a trade.
The Spurs haven't made the playoffs since 2019. They would not only make the playoffs with Antetokounmpo in the fold next to Wembanyama and Fox, but San Antonio would also be a championship contender.
The Bucks signed Antetokounmpo to a three-year, $175 million extension in October 2023. There is no no-trade clause in the contract.
One of the greatest players in NBA history, Antetokounmpo is a two-time MVP, a one-time Finals MVP, a one-time Defensive Player of the Year and a nine-time All-Star. The Greek Freak has career averages of 23.9 points, 9.9 rebounds, 5.0 assists, 1.1 steals and 1.2 blocks.
Antetokounmpo is not expected to request a trade this season, but if the Bucks don't go on a deep playoff run, the future Hall of Famer could ask out next summer.
