This would be a great addition.

The San Antonio Spurs have been urged to trade for a $131 million star defender.

Greg Swartz of Bleacher Report thinks the Spurs should try to trade for Minnesota Timberwolves forward Jaden McDaniels.

"The San Antonio Spurs could make a run at a megastar like Giannis Antetokounmpo and speed up the timeline around Victor Wembanyama, although staying patient and seeing how players like Dylan Harper and Stephon Castle develop may be the best long-term option," Swartz wrote. "Jaden McDaniels is a more reasonable target; a young, three-and-D forward to plug in between players like Wembanyama and De'Aaron Fox.

"The 25-year-old played in all 82 games last year, averaged a career-high 12.2 points and made an All-Defensive team in 2023-24."

McDaniels is one of the best two-way players in the NBA. The swingman made the Second Team All-Defensive Team during the 2023-24 season.

The 25-year-old McDaniels averaged 12.2 points, 5.7 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 1.3 steals and 0.9 blocks for the Timberwolves last season while shooting 47.7% from the field, 33.0% from beyond the arc and 81.3% from the free-throw line.

The Timberwolves signed McDaniels to a five-year, $131 million extension in 2023. We saw the Dallas Mavericks trade superstar Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers last season, so anything is possible in today's NBA, but the odds of Minnesota trading McDaniels are very, very low.

San Antonio hasn't made the playoffs since 2019. However, the franchise has a bright future with Victor Wembanyama, De'Aaron Fox, Dylan Harper, Stephon Castle and Devin Vassell leading the way.

The Spurs are looking to make the playoffs this season after rebuilding for the past couple of seasons. Fox will miss the start of the regular season with a hamstring injury, so Wembanyama and Castle will have to carry the load on offense until the All-Star point guard is back in the lineup.
