The Minnesota Timberwolves entered the 2025-26 season with high expectations, coming off consecutive Western Conference Finals appearances and looking to get over that hump as Anthony Edwards continues his rise into superstardom. Just 2-3 to start the season, the Timberwolves will look to get back on track against the Charlotte Hornets on Saturday.
Even though the Timberwolves have three losses this season, they’ve come against quality opponents, with two coming from the Los Angeles Lakers and one from the Denver Nuggets. A chance to get to .500 on the season, the Timberwolves are set to be shorthanded when they face the Hornets on Saturday night.
According to the NBA’s official injury report, star guard Anthony Edwards is listed as OUT with a right hamstring injury. Edwards played in Minnesota’s first three games of the season, but will now be ruled out for a third-straight game, as Minnesota will have to do without its star wing.
In Edwards’ absence, Chris Finch has opted to start veteran point guard Mike Conley alongside Donte DiVincenzo, and that looks as though that should stay the same, as both players are available for Minnesota. The Timberwolves will also get to see a banged-up Hornets team, which plays in their favor without Edwards.
Edwards has played in just two full games this season, since he went down with an injury against the Indiana Pacers and was limited to three minutes of action. Factoring in just those two games he’s played this season, Edwards is averaging 36.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per game while shooting 50% from beyond the arc.
There’s no denying Edwards has established himself as a star in the NBA, but fans want him to take that next step into becoming an MVP candidate. He already improved drastically last season by leading the league in three-pointers made, but if he can develop more as a facilitator and continue to put up high scoring performances, he’ll be well on his way.
As for Saturday’s contest against the Hornets, tip-off at the Spectrum Center in Charlotte is set for 6:00 p.m. EST, as the Timberwolves begin their first of three-straight East Coast road games. Even without their star, Minnesota needs this win if they want to remain in the thick of the Western Conference standings in a highly competitive race.
With Edwards still sidelined until the middle of November, the Timberwolves will have to make do until his return.
