The Minnesota Timberwolves have received a positive update as Anthony Edwards progresses from his injury

The Minnesota Timberwolves might not have an NBA Finals appearance in their franchise history, but they've made the Western Conference Finals in each of the last two seasons. Furthermore, they did so with two different teams, one featuring Karl-Anthony Towns and the other with Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo instead. But, there's one consistent: Anthony Edwards.

Edwards spent one year with the University of Georgia before being selected with the first pick in the 2020 NBA Draft. Since entering the league, he's improved as a scorer every year, and last season asserted himself as one of the top three-point shooters, leading the league in total makes. However, he's been sidelined since the third game of this season, but a return is approaching.

According to a press release by the Timberwolves, Edwards has been cleared for contact basketball activities after suffering a hamstring strain against the Indiana Pacers on October 26th.

"Edwards’ game availability will remain as out as he continues to progress through his return-to-play rehabilitation program. Further updates of his progress will be provided when available," Timberwolves PR wrote.

Edwards played in just two full games before leaving in the first quarter against the Pacers in Minnesota's third game of the 2025-26 season. His averages in those first two games were stellar, putting up 36.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 3.0 assists while shooting 53.2% from the field.

In his absence, the team has looked to Julius Randle, who is averaging 29.5 points and 4.8 assists per game in the four contests that Edwards has played or finished. Randle agreed to a three-year, $100 million extension with Minnesota this offseason and is getting the opportunities early this season to progress to mid-season form.

What Should Timberwolves Fans Expect From Edwards Upon His Return

Based on initial reporting, it seems as though Edwards could return sometime in the middle of November. Minnesota has a rather easy schedule until November 15th, when they'll have a rematch with the Denver Nuggets, who defeated them 127-114 earlier in the year. If Edwards can return by then, he'll have the chance to get right during a four-game home stand.

If his play from the first two games of the season is any indication, Edwards could be taking that next leap in his game to become a contender for the All-NBA First Team. While his efficiency has looked strong in his first two games, being consistent and keeping Minnesota near the top of the Western Conference will surely factor into how the voters see Edwards.

Regardless, Minnesota will be without Edwards on Monday night when they face the Brooklyn Nets at 7:00 p.m. EST, a game the Timberwolves have no business losing.
