The Minnesota Timberwolves have managed without Anthony Edwards over the last four games, currently on a two-game winning streak after dropping contests to the Denver Nuggets and Los Angeles Lakers. Leading the way has been Julius Randle, fresh off a triple-double performance against the Brooklyn Nets on Monday.
Looking to finish off their three-game road trip undefeated, the Timberwolves will see the New York Knicks in Madison Square Garden on Wednesday. After dropping three straight road games to start the season, the Knicks have managed to go 4-0 in their home contests this year. While the Knicks may have the edge, the Timberwolves just received great news.
Heading into Wednesday's contest, the Timberwolves have upgraded Anthony Edwards' status to QUESTIONABLE, as he's been dealing with a right hamstring injury he suffered in the team's 114-110 win over the Indiana Pacers on October 26th. Even though Minnesota's offense has fared well recently, there's no denying Edwards takes them to the next level.
If Edwards is able to make his return on Wednesday, he'll look to build upon his small sample size against the Knicks, the team he's faced the least in his career (excluding Minnesota). In eight career meetings, he's averaged 23.0 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 4.0 assists, with his last performance being 36 points, 13 rebounds, and seven assists in a 116-99 win.
As for the rest of Minnesota's injury report, both Rob Dillingham and Donte DiVincenzo remain listed as AVAILABLE while they wear protective face masks. DiVincenzo led the team in scoring with 25 points in their win over the Brooklyn Nets, while Dillingham added seven points and three rebounds off the bench.
2024 saw a massive blockbuster trade between the Knicks and Timberwolves, where Karl-Anthony Towns was sent to the Big Apple in exchange for Randle and DiVincenzo. While the players have matched up against their former teams since, it's still always an area to pay attention to, especially with Randle and DiVincenzo likely to feel more pressure to get back at their former team.
While Randle and DiVincenzo are coming off great performances in their last game, so is Towns, who posted 33 points and 13 rebounds in New York's 119-102 win over the Washington Wizards. A game sure to be filled with emotion, a return from Edwards would further make this a must-watch contest.
Tip-off at Madison Square Garden on Wednesday is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. EST on ESPN.
