Last week Jimmy Butler entertained his teammates at his palatial estate in San Diego. They played basketball and worked on their drills as a team, sans Jonathan Kuminga.
However, Draymond Green walked away with a solid impression of the former Miami Heat star's wine cellar.
"He has the wine cellar of an emperor," Green said.
Green also said that with Butler in the Bay for training camp and the offseason, the team is capable of doing greater things.
“You can implement more things and build an identity from the beginning," Green said. "I think last year we were just kind of doing whatever we could to make it work. This year, we get a chance to see what’s best.”
Butler took the microphone after Green had his dissertation with the media Monday, and he displayed his Warriors' jersey, but also had the bling-bling going on with his enormous diamond stud earrings.
The emperor spoke glowingly of his teammates and what it will be like to play a full season in the city by the bay. He said he was looking forward to training camp, which started Tuesday, and working toward a championship-caliber season.
Butler can afford the extra-large earrings after he signed a two-year, $111 million extension with the Warriors back in February.
Golden State acquired Butler from the Heat last season after he had a fallout with coaches and the front office. The Warriors amassed a 23-8 record with Butler in the lineup at the end of the season. He worked hard in the offseason and wants to see what he can accomplish with Green, Stephen Curry, Kuminga and the rest of the star-studded lineup over a full season.
“I get to do this thing from day one,” Butler said. “Be with the guys from day one and do what we started out to do from the very beginning. I’m super hyped.”
Butler was a missing piece to what could be a championship-type roster. Sprinkle in the veteran free agents that were signed on Tuesday like Seth Curry and Al Horford, the team will be tough to compete with, but they are also an older team. Four starters are over the age of 35.
Butler, who is now with his fourth team since he has been in the league, knows the opportunity to win is closing in and the time to win is now.
“We’re going to have to go out there and produce and get it done,” Butler said. “We know that. But we are just so joyful.
“We’re so happy to be able to compete with one another … and do what I want to do for the first time, win a championship. I smile knowing it’s a really great chance for us.”
