The Washington Wizards have an opportunity to win multiple games in a row since March last season. The Wizards take on the Indiana Pacers in Indianapolis, Indiana, at 7:30 p.m. EST tonight.
The Pacers, who were a game away from their first NBA title a year ago, boast an NBA-worst 2-16 record entering tonight. Indiana's been decimated by injuries, including its star player Tyrese Haliburton, who tore his Achilles in game 7 of the NBA Finals.
Washington enters off its first win since October 24th, the second night of the season. Washington ended its 14-game losing streak with a 132-113 win over the Atlanta Hawks.
This game shapes up as an opportunity for Washington to push in transition. It enters as the third best three-point shooting team in the NBA, shooting at 38.2%. Conversely, Indiana's 31.3% is the worst in the league.
Washington is now without arguably two of its best shooters following the news of Corey Kispert's injury.
Kispert sustained a fracture to the tip of his right thumb in the third quarter vs the Hawks, the team announced.
The team did not provide a timetable for his return. They said they’d treat the injury “conservatively.”
With him and rookie Tre Johnson on the mend, the Wizards are down key contributors from behind the arc.
Additionally, Kyshawn George, who missed Washington's game on Tuesday with an illness, remains questionable to play tonight with the aforementioned illness.
On the Pacers' injury front, guard Andrew Nembhard is questionable for Friday's game due to a right quadriceps contusion.
Nembhard is Indiana's third leading scorer at 17.5 points per game.
The Pacers still boast talent in the front court, providing another nice challenge for Wizards' second-year big, Alex Sarr. Pascal Siakam has led the way for Indiana with 23.5 points per game.
Sarr has been one of the brightest stories for the Wizards this year. The French big's new aggressive offensive play rockets him into a massive improvement on that end of the floor.
Sarr's 27 points and 11 rebounds against Atlanta was the first time this year an excellent performance for him translated to a winning product.
Washington looks to replicate what was one of its best defensive performances of the season on Tuesday. The Wizards 122.6 defensive rating is a tick above the worst mark in the NBA.
Indiana averages 55.6 drives per game, the fifth best mark in the league. Sarr, who has been that anchor for Washington, is the third best shot blocker in the league, swatting two per night.
Indiana has a 66.8% chance to win tonight, according to ESPN's matchup predictor.
