A thirty three game home winning streak has been snapped.

And the Alabama Crimson Tide shushed a once deafening Sanford Stadium by beating the Georgia Bulldogs 24-21.

After Week 1’s loss to Florida State, virtually everyone had an opinion on what to expect next from Alabama.

Pure panic mode. From fans wondering how much head coach Kalen DeBoer’s contract buyout was to media personalities were delivering hot takes, including Dan Orlovsky questioning if DeBoer makes it past September.

Well, it’s the final Saturday of September and DeBoer walked out of Dooley Field with the last laugh.

It was an eventful night in Athens, Georgia and here at Roundtable we have a few observations from Saturday night’s bash Between the Hedges.

    Ty Simpson Can Ball

Just in case you weren’t a believer after the UL-Monroe and Wisconsin games, but Ty Simpson has been as advertised.

And in the words of Alabama social media personality, Nick Perkins, it’s where he “wrote his name in Crimson flame.”

He completed 63% of his passes for 276 yards, two passing touchdowns, and a rushing touchdown.

When the Tide needed a play, Simpson was there to ease the concerns of Gump Nation. They were seemingly unstoppable on third down, converting on 13 out of 19 attempts and converted on 25 first downs as opposed to Georgia’s 17.

It was clear that Georgia was starting to get to Simpson in the second half. The Bulldogs are elite at second half adjustments, and we saw just that when Alabama didn’t score once in the third and fourth quarters.

    Defense Out Dawg’ed the Dawgs

You know that Georgia was going to run the ball, and run it effectively.

However, a major concern coming into this game was neutralizing Georgia quarterback Gunner Stockton, whose legs have been such a massive weapon this season. Bama’s defense did just that, where it forced Stockton to throw the football, and only allowed him to run ball for 10-plus yards just once.

You saw an intensity there. The goal line defense was beyond impressive, and had it not been for a holding penalty by Zabien Brown, the Tide would’ve stuffed the Bulldogs with three minutes left in the first half.

Don’t get it twisted, Georgia’s run game did expose Alabama’s defense, as most were expecting. But it was thoroughly impressive to see how Alabama limited the damage.

Defensive end LT Overton made the biggest play of the game.

As Georgia was marching down the field into the redzone, Alabama had limited the Bulldogs to 4th and 1 on its six-yard line. But Georgia coach Kirby Smart wanted this win, and he went for it.

Overton read the play perfectly and as Stockton handed off to Cash Jones, Overton got just enough of Jones for Jones to lose his balance and fall down – handling the ball back to the Tide.

    Receivers Were Reliable

Minus the jarring missed opportunity from Ryan Williams in Alabama’s first drive, the rest of the receivers were fantastic.

And who knew left tackle Kadyn Proctor had a receiving/rushing background?!

369-lb Kadyn Proctor catches a pass 😂 369-lb Kadyn Proctor catches a pass 😂 Alabama offensive lineman Kadyn Proctor catches a screen pass vs. Georgia

Isaiah Horton made his presence known early on in the game. Simpson went to him and went to him often, and it didn't seem like Georgia had an answer for him.

He did disappear though in the second half, as Georgia finally seemed to figure him out and started putting more defenders on him.

Then it was the Germie Bernard show, who week after week, is starting to look like a Deebo Samuel clone, with the way he’s managing to effectively rush the ball as well.

And even though Lotzeir Brooks got only two targets, he hauled them both in, including an underrated play where he broke three separate tackles for a 21 yard play.

    Run Game Woes

The run game certainly struggled today, even with the return of Jam Miller.

The Bulldogs had every answer any time the Tide wanted to run, so it forced Alabama to get its running backs involved with screen passes.

In total, Georgia outran Alabama 227 yards to 117, and it was virtually a grind for guys like Miller and Kevin Riley to find any holes.

Though, both seemed to step up later in the game, when the team needed it most, and it eventually sealed the deal for the Tide to come out with a win.

Alabama's next game is on Saturday, October 4th against Vanderbilt at Bryant-Denny Stadium.
