Auburn is now 3-0 after earning a 31-15 win over the South Alabama Jaguars at home on Saturday afternoon. While the margin of victory was smaller than expected, the Tigers feel as though they have something to build on from this game offensively.
Cam Coleman, who made an impressive touchdown catch in the first quarter, was Auburn's second-leading receiver as he recorded 49 yards.
Coleman is confident in the direction of the unit, it just needs to keep working towards its goals of being one of the SEC's best.
"I feel like we have a little more to work on, a little more to work on, but it's always room for improvement," Coleman said. "I feel like we've been executing pretty good, we just gotta keep it going."
One part of Auburn's offense that has been particularly impressive to Coleman has been the breakout of running back Jeremiah Cobb. The junior has had to carry a bigger load after the injury of Damari Alston, something Coleman believes he has handled well.
"I've been seeing him work tremendously," Coleman said of Cobb. "I've seen the glimpses last year, but I've seen he's been working. I've seen the fruits of his labor pay off."
Coleman credits developing a better understanding of the offense for the level he has been able to play at so far this season.
Now having a full year under his belt under head coach Hugh Freeze and his staff, Coleman has been able to grow into the player he wants to be.
"I feel like I'm more comfortable with the playbook," Coleman said. "So it allows me to play faster and really just seeing coverages more and understanding how to run routes, all different coverages. So yeah, that's really where my most growth is at."
Coleman and company return to action next week when they take on Oklahoma to begin SEC play. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m. CT and ABC will carry the broadcast.
