The No. 22 Auburn Tigers are heading into SEC play with a 3-0 record. Despite their contest against the South Alabama Jaguars at home on Saturday not going completely according to plan, head coach Hugh Freeze is confident in what his team has shown so far this season.

“Very, very happy to be 3-0 headed into our SEC opener," Freeze said. "I thought our kids did what they needed to do to win the football game Saturday. There were a lot of things we did well. Some things we can certainly be better at."

Freeze was pleased with Auburn's ability to put points on the scoreboard, despite their being plenty of things tune up on the offensive side of the ball.

"Offensively, zero turnovers and zero penalties, that’s a good way to start," Freeze said. "Scoring on five of your first six possessions is really nice to get off to a faster start. Special teams had some good things, kickoffs and kickoff coverage were really good. Field goal team was solid. Good to see Alex (McPherson) getting more strength, and I think that’s getting better each week to help us with the field goal opportunities we may have."

The Tigers did not have their best day defensively. Missed tackles and assignments were consistent throughout the game. Freeze is determined to get those cleaned up before taking on the No. 11 Oklahoma Sooners on Saturday.

"Defensively, three yards per rush or so. That’s solid, but definitely could clean up a lot of things. Our missed assignments went back up, which we’re not happy with. We’ve got to get that, certainly, cleaned up before Saturday."

With non-conference play in the books for now, Freeze and company are excited to take on a challenging SEC slate.

"Great home crowd, great homecoming," Freeze said. Excited to be 3-0 headed into our SEC opener.”
