Jeremiah Cobb had plenty of opportunities to show what he could do in the Auburn Tigers' 42-3 win over Ball State. With Durell Robinson on the shelf for an extended period of time and Damari Alston questionable, Cobb will be the guy the Tigers trust to lead the way on the ground once again.

Cobb is coming off an outing in which he rushed for 121 yards and two touchdowns on 11 carries. He has already amassed more yards this season, 195, than he has in either of his previous two, in which he appeared in 25 total games, with the Tigers.

"Cobb is definitely different than Damari (Alston)," head coach Hugh Freeze said. "Probably more of a slasher than a power guy, and obviously has open-field speed, which he showed the other night, and is excited that he got his first 100-yard rushing game. He’ll have to carry the bulk of the load Saturday for sure, and we’ll figure out how Damari is and get Omar (Mabson II) ready to go also, and maybe even Alvin (Henderson)."

Cobb refused to let Auburn's offensive line go uncredited, as moving the ball on the ground effectively would not be possible without them creating lanes for him and the rest of the running backs.

"It's easy to run with those holes like that," Cobb said. "They make it real easy, I'm proud of them."

While Cobb enjoyed having the breakout performance he's been waiting on since joining the program, he understands where his focus needs to be.

"It was very rewarding," Cobb said. "I can't sit there and dwell on that, I've got to move on and keep working toward the future and get better each week."

There is still a long way to go, but Cobb appears to be ready for the responsibility of leading the team on the ground and having a year to remember in the process.

"We’ll have to kind of see where we are towards the end of the week, but I'm excited for Jeremiah," Freeze said. "I've said leading up to this season, I really thought he was heading for a breakout season, and he appears to be on that track.”
