It’s been a very exciting past few days for the Duke basketball program, as it was able to welcome some of the top players in the country to the 2026 recruiting class.
Duke signed three players, including five-star Cameron Williams, Bryson Howard, and Maxime Meyer. Howard is the No. 12-ranked player in the country, while Meyers comes in at No. 94. Williams heads to class at No. 3.
When speaking about what it means to welcome a player of Williams' caliber to Duke, as the program has a long history of success with five-star talents like the 7-footer, head coach Jon Scheyer brought up some of the good that Williams will be able to do during his time with the Blue Devils.
One important note is that he can shoot the basketball at a much higher level than the typical center for his age, which Scheyer is excited about.
"We can't wait to welcome Cameron Williams to The Brotherhood," said Scheyer, per Duke. "Cam possesses a unique set of tools you just don't find very often. At 7-feet with the ability to guard one through five, elite shooting range, ball-handling ability, and connective playmaking. Cam impacts the game in so many ways, but what excites us most is how coachable and intelligent he is. He genuinely wants to get better, win, and he has an unbelievable ceiling. Bringing in a player with his size, versatility, skill, and mindset is a huge addition for us. Cam's future is as bright as anyone's in the country, and we can't wait to get to work and help him maximize every bit of his potential at Duke."
It'll be interesting to see what impact all of these players have at Duke, as we can already assume it will go out and make the necessary moves in the transfer portal.
It's also important to remember that some of the current freshmen on the roster, despite also being high recruits, will probably be back for another year, at the very least.
Coming in from Arizona, Williams decided to go to Duke instead of the likes of Arizona, Purdue, and other programs from which he received an offer.
