If Duke wants any chance to win the ACC, it'll have to come away with a massive win against a top-20-ranked Virginia team on Saturday.
Virginia has been one of the better teams in the nation this season and looks to be in a spot to potentially make the College Football Playoffs, depending on how things unfold over the next few weeks.
This is as big a game as Duke has played in a very long time, and while I understand the frustration behind losing to UConn a week ago, it doesn't mean a lot for CFFP, and it's best chance of getting in was through the automatic bid of winning the ACC Championship Game.
But there was some massive news for Virginia, as it sounds like quarterback Chandler Morris will be ready to go.
According to ESPN, Pete Thamel reported that he expects Morris to play this week, and he's progressing toward a return against the Blue Devils.
“Virginia quarterback Chandler Morris is progressing toward returning to play on Saturday, sources told ESPN's Pete Thamel.
“There is optimism that Morris will start for Virginia at Duke as he continues to work his way through concussion protocol. A final decision on his status is not expected until game time, sources added,” ESPN reported.
It doesn't sound like this should be too big an issue for Manny Diaz and Duke.
When speaking to reporters about what the quarterback situation looked like, Diaz said that he was getting prepared for Morris to play, despite the uncertainties of him being ready to go.
"You prep like [Chandler] Morris is going to be there," Diaz said. "The word is, [Morris] is practicing today (Wednesday). His toughness is unquestioned. You try to study both guys, but you assume you're always going to [face] a team at their best. Certainly, we feel like we've played a bunch of outstanding quarterbacks this year, and you can throw him right in that same pile of great quarterbacks with great instincts, toughness, and just a baller instinct."
Duke has to be prepared for everything this weekend, as there's a very good chance that Virginia could use a few different looks at the quarterback position if Morris doesn't feel great.
