It's always tough to compare players who are in the NBA to college athletes.
That's the unfortunate reality when it comes to just the difference in college sports compared to the NBA, as things are a lot different at the highest level.
While we've seen some very good players during Duke's past few decades, and will continue to moving forward, it's also important to remember that no matter how they look in college, they probably aren't anywhere close to most players in the NBA, especially the stars.
That doesn't mean somebody like Cameron Boozer can't go into the NBA right now and find success, but to say that he's anything like some former Duke players, including what Jay Bilas has had to say about him being comparable to Paolo Banchero, would probably be unfair.
"He is as good a player (as) there is in the country," Bilas told USA TODAY Sports in a recent interview. “He's right there with anybody for national player of the year."
"He reminds you a little bit of Paolo Banchero with his build and his game, and that's saying something," Bilas said.
Now, if Bilas wants to talk about some of his actual game and what he does well on the court, there can always be some comparisons due to their size.
However, Banchero was also very, very good in college, and has proven even more in the NBA.
Again, that isn't to say that Boozer can't be that in the NBA one day, but we might have to slow down a bit when comparing an NBA All-Star and max contract guy to a college freshman who has only played in six games.
"He's got a competitive nature to him. He knows how to play and he's got a maturity that's beyond his age," Bilas said. "You can isolate him and he's going to draw a double team. He's got the wherewithal to pass out of it and find an open teammate when he draws a double. He can go through people, he can go around you, he can go over you, he can go through you.”
