The college basketball landscape has completely changed over much of the past few years, and programs like Duke have been impacted by it a lot more than some make it seem.
It'll be interesting to see how Duke continues to play with a lot of youngsters on its roster, but it's also important to recognize that Duke is going to continue to attract the top players in the world in each high school class.
Some have questioned whether that's the right strategy for Duke, as its expectations are sky high every season, as it is expected to win a national championship every single year.
When asked if he believes that Duke has an opportunity to win a national championship with young players, Jon Scheyer put it best.
He admitted that in a perfect world, he'd love to have veterans, but it doesn't really mean it's the best formula going forward, and Duke has proven that, despite not winning at all.
"In a perfect world, do I think that we would like to have a little bit more experience? Of course I would," Scheyer said, per ESPN. "It was the best formula for this year. It doesn't necessarily mean it's the best formula going forward. For this year, it just made the most sense to do it this way. And I think we've proven that you can win this way."
Scheyer, and especially Coach K, have shown throughout much of the past few decades that Duke can win with the best of them, no matter the formula.
Whatever way it decides to go, it’s simply going to result in success.
"Every year you [have] got to show the young freshmen what it is to be a Duke basketball player and what it is to just be a college basketball player in general," junior guard Caleb Foster said. "I think that this year it is easier because we have five, six guys returning. We can all be a collective effort to help the young guys through struggles ... to know what to expect and get ready, prepare for the environments we're going to be in."
I'm a bit conflicted when it comes to this point.
I think, obviously, Duke is as good as it is for many reasons, but it's also important to remember that in this college basketball landscape, there has to be a way to bring a few older players along the way.
