The Florida Gators will face the LSU Tigers in Week Three of the college football season, a key SEC matchup for both teams. Kickoff in Baton Rouge is set for 7:30 p.m. Eastern Time on ABC this Saturday, Sept. 13.
Here is everything you need to know about the Tigers ahead of the pivotal road game for UF.
2025 results: LSU is ranked No. 3 in the country after a 2-0 start to the season. The Tigers’ defense starred in a road win over No. 12 Clemson in the season opener. LSU and head coach Brian Kelly followed that up with a decisive, if not impressive, 23-7 win over Louisiana Tech in Baton Rouge last weekend.
By The Numbers: LSU’s defense has carried the team through two weeks of play, only allowing two total touchdowns, one of which was a garbage-time score by La. Tech. The win over Clemson has lost a little bit of its shine after CU struggled early in its Week Two game against Troy. However, Clemson quarterback Cade Klubnik was considered one of the country’s best entering the season, and LSU’s defense almost fully shut him down. Klubnik finished the game 19-38 for 230 yards with one interception and zero touchdowns.
LSU QB Garrett Nussmeier was also considered one of the top prospects entering 2025. His offense hasn’t fully met the lofty expectations many had, only averaging 20 points per game, but it remains a unit loaded with talent.
Leading Passer: Garrett Nussmeier, 54-79, 469 yards, 2 TD, 1 INT
Leading Receiver: Aaron Anderson, 14 receptions, 172 yards, 0TD
Leading Rusher: Caden Durham, 30 rushes, 103 yards, 2 TD
Head Coach: Brian Kelly (4th year)
More Names To Know: Linebackers Harold Perkins, Jr., and Whit Weeks are the leaders of the LSU defense, both with the ability to make big plays in coverage, in the pass rush, or as run stoppers. Florida State transfer defensive end Patrick Payton is one of the most explosive playmakers in the Tigers front seven.
Offensively, a pair of transfer wide receivers give LSU their traditional depth and high-end talent at the position. Barion Brown (Kentucky) and Nic Anderson (Oklahoma) keep opposing defenses from focusing on Anderson.
Game Analysis: Both coaches enter this game with something to prove. Kelly has to show that his team is a legitimate National Champion contender as he’s now in year four of a tenure that was expected to bring trophies back to Baton Rouge. Florida’s Billy Napier, meanwhile, is dealing with widespread criticism after losing to then-unranked USF at home last week. He badly needs a win to show that his team can still make something of the season.
