The Luke Loucks Era at Florida State began with a 108-76 win over Alcorn State. The game featured offensive fireworks for the Seminoles, though it also left some questions on the defensive end.

The first game of the Luke Loucks Era at Florida State featured fireworks on the offensive end of the game, as the Seminoles downed Alcorn State 108-76 on Tuesday night. It was the first time FSU basketball has topped the century mark since Nov. 10 of 2021, a 105-70 over Penn.

The offensive display even had a timely moment of history as senior guard Robert McCray V set a new school record with 17 assists. It was the most assists by a Seminole since Loucks himself racked up 13 against North Carolina in 2012.

FSU's defense, however, left the game with plenty of room for improvement. Ceding 76 points to a mid-level SWAC team will be a disappointment to a program trying to contend in the ACC.

The defensive issues weren't as much about the total as they were when those points were scored. It's not uncommon in games like these for a lower conference opponent to rack up late points in garbage time against backups. However, ASU actually scored more points in the first half (44) than it did in the second (32).

The Braves even led the Seminoles 15-14 at the 14:22 mark in the first half, but a 16-0 run by FSU gave the Noles a lead they ultimately never lost.

Regardless of how FSU got there, topping 100 points in Loucks' debut is a positive start for the first-time head coach and former Seminole star. Loucks is the eighth consecutive FSU head coach to win their first game.

    Loucks on McCray's big night
"What a night for Rob McCray. That was awesome to be a part of ... For him to put on that display: the 17 assists, the way he broke down the game, and more impressively just two turnovers. It's hard to share the ball the way he did and not turn the ball over. I don't care who you're playing. What a special night for him."

Loucks on a career-high 22 points for Chauncey Wiggins
"I didn't know that in the locker room, so I didn't give him credit for it, but wanted to shout him out ... A very efficient game ... I'm more pleased with the five rebounds. It's something we've been demanding of Chauncey, especially when we go small, for Chauncey to rebound the ball. I think he had five of them. I think he can get to seven or eight a game, and to me, he's going to show up on some NBA Draft boards."
