Indiana has again moved up in The Associated Press poll and USA Today Coaches' Poll, as it now sits as the No. 2 team in the country. After defeating Michigan State 38-13 on Saturday, the Hoosiers moved up again. Indiana is now 7-0 and 4-0 in Big Ten play.
Miami, which was previously No. 2, lost 24-21 to Louisville on Friday night, opening the door for Indiana to move up from No. 3 to No. 2. Indiana coach Curt Cignetti has the Hoosiers with their highest ranking ever in just his second season with the program.
Cignetti is spearheading the greatest two-year run in Indiana history. He's now 18-2 as Indiana's coach, and he has Indiana in serious contention to win its first national championship ever. Indiana is ranked for the 20th consecutive week, which is a program record.
Ohio State is the only team ranked ahead of the Hoosiers in both polls. The Buckeyes are also 7-0 with a 4-0 Big Ten record. Ohio State and Indiana were the only teams to receive first-place votes in the AP poll, as Ohio State got 60 and Indiana got six. Ohio State received all 65 first-place votes in the Coaches' Poll.
Ohio State isn't on Indiana's regular-season schedule for the first time since 2008, but if both teams win their last five games, they'd play in the Big Ten championship game in Indianapolis on Dec. 6. If that were to happen, Indiana and Ohio State would likely still be the top two-ranked teams in the country. The Hoosiers have never played in the Big Ten championship game since its inception in 2011.
Indiana hosts UCLA at Noon ET this Saturday.
