BLOOMINGTON, Ind.- The Indiana Hoosiers have a secret weapon — and he could be the reason they win a national championship.
In three seasons, kicker Nico Radicic has missed only one field goal. He continues to deliver in close games where every kick matters. The Hoosiers have played three two-score games this season, and in each, Radicic nailed both of his field-goal attempts to help secure the win.
While kickers often go overlooked in college football, Radicic made his presence known in Indiana’s win over Oregon.
Oregon kicker Atticus Sappington finished the game 2-for-3 on field-goal attempts.
To give the Hoosiers the lead heading into halftime, kicker Brendan Franke drilled a 58-yard field goal — not once, but twice. After Oregon called a timeout just before his first attempt, Franke calmly lined up again and hit it through the uprights.
Head coach Curt Cignetti has continued to praise special teams as a crucial part of Indiana’s success. Radicic remains perfect on the season and has scored 53 points for the Hoosiers.
As Indiana enters the final stretch of the regular season, Radicic will be a key factor. He may not get the headlines, but the Hoosiers’ kicker is a real threat.
