Even with Kansas State's 2-4 record, there's at least some slight optimism with the recent performances.
And for what it's worth, Kansas State has been playing better in the last few weeks, especially quarterback Avery Johnson. Johnson has completed 67.1 percent of his passes, throwing for 512 yards, four touchdowns, and just one interception, while rushing 22 times for 147 yards and a touchdown.
"I thought Avery played maybe his best game last week against Baylor, and he was on point," Klieman said in his TCU pregame interview. "I thought he threw the ball really well. Take the one play aside where we don’t pick up pressure, and he wishes he had that play back. But he threw some strikes, and he's running it when we need him to. We’re not gonna give it to him 15 times a game in the design run game. That’s why we went to the two-quarterback stuff."
Klieman says the Wildcats need to improve at capitalizing on Johnson's star performances, which have been good enough to win football games.
"Avery’s playing at a level in the last few weeks that's good enough for us to win," Klieman said. "[We need to] it’s complementing him a little bit more, making some plays on defense, or finishing drives. I know he’s frustrated we didn’t finish that drive to end the game."
FORMER K-STATE'S JACOB PARRISH CONTINUES IMPRESSIVE ROOKIE SEASON
Kansas State fans don't really have a lot to look forward to each Saturday, as their 2-4 team continues to disappoint and show no real signs of improvement.
But if they need someone to root for, they can just tune into football on Sundays instead, as several of their former stars are off to trailblazing starts in the NFL. San Francisco 49ers safety Marques Sigle had the game-winning tackle against the Rams last Thursday, and now Jacob Parrish is continuing to establish himself as a threat in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' secondary.
CBS Sports lauded Parrish's performance in the win over Seattle, where he recorded a team-high nine tackles.
“Parrish recorded nine tackles (five solo) in the Buccaneers' 38-35 win over the Seahawks on Sunday,” the article wrote. “Parrish played on 97 percent of the snaps -- 59 total -- and was highly active during his time on the field, tying Lavonte David for the team lead in tackles. The rookie third-round pick set a new career high in stops with his tally, which was partly the result of the Buccaneers being without Jamel Dean, Benjamin Morrison, and Christian Izien in the secondary for Sunday's contest. Parrish could fill an elevated role again in a Week 6 home matchup against the 49ers if some or all of the aforementioned trio remains sidelined.”
