Kansas State fans likely groaned when they saw the latest Big 12 injury report.

In addition to not having running back Dylan Edwards once again, the Wildcats will also be without star defensive end Tobi Osunsanmi. Osunsanmi leads the team in sacks, while Edwards leads in rushing yards behind quarterback Avery Johnson.

    DYLAN EDWARDS, RUNNING BACK

It's been a rollercoaster for Edwards, who was projected to have a monster season and continue the trend of dynamic K-State rushers. Instead, he's barely seen the field and hasn't been able to jumpstart the Wildcats' backfield thus far.

“Source: Kansas State star tailback Dylan Edwards will not play against TCU this weekend,” ESPN's Pete Thamel tweeted Thursday night. “It’ll be the third full game Edwards will miss, as he was knocked out early in Kansas State’s Week 0 loss in Dublin. Wildcats are 2-4 with the losses by a combined 13 points.”

His absence against Baylor opened the door for Joe Jackson, who had his best performance of the season on Saturday. Jackson rushed 13 times for 61 yards, while hauling in five receptions for 41 yards. He was the offense's primary catalyst for most of the first half, illustrating his ability to take control with Edwards out.

"I like Joe because of his toughness," K-State offensive coordinator Matt Wells said in his TCU pregame press conference. "Everything hasn’t always gone his way, and I can attest to that personally. But I like that in him; I think he’s got mental and physical toughness. He does a good job, and I think the way he played jump-started us a little bit. We needed his and Avery‘s legs Saturday."

    TOBI OSUNSANMI, DEFENSIVE END

Tobi Osunsanmi may be out for a while.

That's certainly not what Wildcats fans wanted to hear, as they lose arguably their best defensive lineman.

"It sounds like it might be decently long-term here," K-State defensive coordinator Joe Klanderman said in his TCU preview. "I’m not sure what the status will be for later in the year, but for the next couple of weeks, it looks unlikely."

This opens up the lane for others to step up, but certainly not what the revamping defense needed.

"Jordan Allen will have a bigger role now," Klanderman said. "When Ryan Davis got back, we've shuffled Jordan around a little bit. He’s good enough to be out there. He just hasn’t really found a home. If Tobi‘s out for a stretch, then we’ll have to park Jordan in a place, which I think will be good for him. It’s gonna put more stress on guys like Travis Bates and Cody Stufflebean, who frankly are great players. The thing we’re gonna miss with Tobi, especially when it comes to third down, is just the rush. That’s his forte, but he’s a threat in the pass rush game, and we'll miss that."
