Kansas men’s basketball signed all four of its commits in the class of 2026 on the first day of the early signing period, on Wednesday. Head Coach Bill Self is pleased with the class so far, but notes the class needs one more recruit to be an elite class.
The Jayhawks are “probably a player away from it being an elite, elite class.” He said on Friday to the media. “We’re recruiting some guys, so hopefully that’ll play out to be true. I don’t know if it’ll happen this early signing period, but we’ll have to wait and see.”
Trent Perry was the first player in the class to sign his National Letter of Intent. He is a 6-foot-5 guard and small forward who is ranked No. 77 by ESPN.com. Perry played AAU basketball for Mokan Elite.
“Trent is a winner,” Self said in a press release. “He does a little bit of everything. He's athletic. He's got size. He's a guy that can play multiple positions on the floor. I feel like when Trent is on your team, your team's automatically better.”
The next player to become an official Jayhawk was Taylen Kinney. The five-star guard rounds out the top of Kansas’ 2026 class. Kinney is ranked No. 13 by 247Sports.com, No. 17 by ESPN.com, and is ranked as the No. 1 point guard in the country by 247Sports.com. He joins as the newest Overtime Elite prospect to sign with Kansas.
“Taylen’s one of the best point guards in the country,” Self said. “He's a scoring point. He can shoot. He's got great vision. He can create for himself and create for others. Taylen’s transition to college ball should be seamless. He's prepared to run a college basketball team.”
Next, shooting guard Luke Barnett signed with Kansas. He played AAU basketball for Arizona Unity in the summer of 2025, and his primary skill is shooting.
“Luke's the best shooter we've recruited since Gradey (Dick),” Self said. “He has great range. He's got good size and is a powerful, tough athlete. Luke’s an outstanding shooter, much like Gradey was when we brought him in.”
Lastly, Kansas signed power forward Davion Adkins. As a five-star recruit, Adkins is ranked No. 27 by Rivals.com, No. 33 by 247Sports.com, and No. 46 by ESPN.com.
“Davion is a prototypical power forward that can also be big enough to play the pivot,” Self said. “We're excited about him because he's versatile. He's an athlete. He can play above the rim and has shown great improvement over the last year. We feel Davion’s ceiling is very high.”
Those four players signed with Kansas this week, and Self is still searching for one more player to round out the class. Kansas’ class was ranked No. 2 by ESPN, behind only rival Missouri.
