No. 21 Kansas men’s basketball is inching closer to a final decision on star freshman guard Darryn Peterson’s status for Tuesday’s top-25 showdown with No. 5 UConn, and Bill Self said Monday that the freshman guard continues to make progress. But Self emphasized that nothing will be made official until Peterson clears one last hurdle.

“He has practiced, and he’s gone up and down,” Self said. “The hesitancy I have is that before we’ll announce anything is, he has to test out medically from a strength and flexibility standpoint, and we’ll know that in the morning. So, still no answer. But we’ll be able to say something definitively in the morning.”

Peterson hasn’t played since early November while recovering from a hamstring injury, missing six straight games. His return would give Kansas more scoring talent, but Self made clear the final call won’t come until Tuesday morning’s testing.
