There were a lot of people in state of Louisiana that were very happy when LSU football coach Brian Kelly was fired earlier in the week. That includes the most important person in the state, Gov. Jeff Landry.

Landry, it appears, also isn't a fan of LSU athletic director Scott Woodward, the guy who gave Kelly a fully guaranteed 10-year, $95 million contract. After firing Kelly, he's still owed $54 million. Woodward, a Baton Rouge native and LSU grad, has been the AD at his alma mater since 2019. Prior to that, he was the AD at Texas A&M, where he lured Jimbo Fisher away from Florida State to College Station.

He gave Fisher a 10-year, $75 million contract, and then a huge extension that included a 10-year, $95 million deal after Fisher went 9-1 in 2020. But he lost at least four games in the next three years and was fired after the 2023 season. He was owed $77.5 million when he was fired, the largest buyout in college sports history.

So since Woodward is 0-for-2 in hiring football coaches, Landry made it clear in a press conference on Wednesdaay that he even Woodward is the athletic director, he will NOT be hiring the next coach at LSU.

He doubled down on those comments on Thursday too, when he appeared on the The Pat McAfee Show on ESPN.

"Hell, I'd let Donald Trump pick [the next coach] before I let [Woodward] do it," said the empassioned governor.

Here's the complete story on Landry's comments from LSU Roundtable publisher Dylan Sanders.

Kelly was fired with a 5-3 record, losing to No. 13 Ole Miss, No. 17 Vanderbilt and No. 3 Texas A&M. He was just 3-10 in his last 13 games against ranked teams. Frank Wilson is the interim coach for LSU.
