The Miami Hurricanes overcame adversity and pulled through with a victory against the Florida State Seminoles, with a final score of 28-22. The team’s third consecutive win over an in-state rival.
It was the Hurricanes’ first game on the road, but they didn't shy from the challenge. Despite a sloppy defensive performance in the end, the program successfully took over the “Sunshine State.”
Quarterback Carson Beck came through with a much steadier performance compared to the Hurricanes’ week four matchup against the Florida Gators. The redshirt senior completed 20 of 28 passes for 241 yards and four touchdowns. He had a slow start, but picked up the pace thanks to a couple of explosive plays.
Beck may have regained some ground in the Heisman Trophy race.
Wide receivers Malachi Toney and CJ Daniels scored all of the Hurricanes’ touchdowns and were the recipients of Beck’s long passes to spark up the offense.
The victory was significant, so much so that it boosted the Hurricanes from third to second in the latest AP Polls.
As for the Seminoles, they barely hung on, being ranked 25th.
The Ohio State Buckeyes continue to dominate the polls, remaining in first for the sixth consecutive week.
However, they have just one victory against a ranked opponent, meanwhile the Hurricanes have three under their belt.
The Hurricanes are one of the most well-balanced teams in the nation. They manage to put points on the board in a variety of ways and also come through with crucial stops.
The program did a tremendous job in upgrading the roster, as well as bringing in amazing personnel on the defensive staff, especially with Corey Hetherman.
It is worth noting that the AP voters did not fully consider the Hurricanes’ fourth-quarter disaster against the Seminoles, but rather focused on the results.
The Hurricanes currently will not face another ranked opponent for the rest of the season. It's a clear opportunity to dominate and establish themselves as legitimate playoff contenders.
The Hurricanes’ schedule for the rest of the season consists of Atlantic Coast Conference opponents. The program has yet to win an ACC championship since joining in 2004.
Mario Cristobal and the team have a tremendous opportunity to do something special for the program.
They must carry the momentum from all their tough victories the rest of the way.
The Hurricanes are aligned for glory, but they cannot take the pedal off the gas.
