This season Michigan football has already faced a tall task against Oklahoma, and they did not fare well.  That game was on the road against a top 25 opponent, and the crowd, Oklahoma’s team and gameplan were too much for Michigan to handle.  But what is it going to take this weekend in Lincoln when Michigan travels there this Saturday to take on the Cornhuskers at 3:30?  This game holds a lot of value for the winner, not only does it put them undefeated in Big Ten play, but it would give the Wolverines that first big road win for Underwood, and while head Coach Sherrone Moore is still suspended.  

There are three Wolverines that come to mind when thinking who needs to really have a huge game.   Byce Underwood isn’t on my list of three solely because he is expected to perform game in and game out, and last week the country really saw his total repertoire of skill.  The three key wolverines that could prove dangerous are Justice Haynes, Ernest Hausmann, and Dominic Zvada.

Justice Haynes

Justice Haynes will need to continue his strong running game to open up the offense and challenge Nebraska's highly ranked passing defense.  

• Establish the run early: Force Nebraska to commit defenders to stopping the run, which could create opportunities for freshman quarterback Bryce Underwood in the passing game.
• Generate explosive plays: Haynes has already shown an ability to break off big gains (59 and 75-yard runs this season). These types of plays can shift momentum and put Nebraska's defense on their heels.
• Challenge Nebraska's run defense: Nebraska's defense has been solid so far this season, allowing just 2.6 yards per carry. Haynes will need to be effective against a tough run defense to wear them down and create scoring opportunities.

Ernest Hausmann

Michigan senior linebacker Ernest Hausmann's return to play against his former team, the Nebraska Cornhuskers, adds a unique and potentially emotional dynamic to this weekend's game. 

Emotional factor and motivation

• Playing against his former team in his home state could provide extra motivation for Hausmann, potentially leading to a more impactful performance.
• His teammates and coaches have recognized the personal significance of this game for him, suggesting a heightened level of intensity.

Hausmann leads Michigan’s defense with 20 tackles and Ernest brings a combination of strong on-field skills, leadership, and personal motivation to the Saturday’s game. His performance, especially his tackling and ability to disrupt plays, will be critical for Michigan's defensive success. His knowledge of the Cornhuskers could also be a subtle advantage. However, his availability due to injury needs to be confirmed. I am not too concerned as he did play against CMU, and if he is healthy enough Michigan will need him out there against Nebraska.

Dominic Zvada 

Dom makes this list simply because of how reliable he “usually” is.  Now I know he has missed two field goals this year, ones he would love to get back.  The simple fact is the kid can hit from anywhere.  Saturday he could prove to be dangerous as he may be the difference if Michigan leaves with a victory or not.  This game is projected to be very close, so for that reason Zvada could be lethal to the Cornhuskers, potentially sending fans home very sad. Despite his recent slump, Zvada is considered one of the best kickers in the country, and in a pivotal road game against Nebraska where every point matters, his performance on field goals and extra points could be a deciding factor. The Michigan coaching staff is hoping he can regain his consistency for Big Ten play.
