NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The formerly No. 15 ranked Missouri Tigers fell 17-10 to the formerly No. 10 ranked Vanderbilt Commodores Saturday night, essentially ending Missouri's chance at a spot in in the Southeastern Conference Championship, and darkening its chances at a spot in the College Football Playoff.
"There's still a lot of football left, lot of opportunities left," head coach Eli Drinkwitz said. "You know, the reality of it is, like I told them in there, you know, we're probably not playing for the conference championship now with two losses, but we're darn sure playing for the playoffs."
The Tigers dropped four spots in the AP Top 25 Poll to No. 19, while Vanderbilt jumped to No. 9.
Other team's receiving votes include Navy with 86, Tulane 59, Washington 46, Iowa 27, South Florida 22, San Diego St. 14, LSU 11, James Madison 9, North Texas 4, Illinois 3 and Pittsburgh 1.
The Tigers are now 6-2 on the season, and 2-2 in SEC play, having lost to two top-10 teams in Alabama and Vanderbilt. Missouri still has not beat a ranked opponent since Week 3 of 2024, when Brady Cook took down Thomas Castellanos' No. 24 ranked Boston College Eagles.
Missouri is the eighth-highest ranked SEC team, trailing Texas A&M, Alabama, Georgia, Vanderbilt, Ole Miss, Tennesseee and Oklahoma. Texas is the only other SEC team in the Top 25 to trail Missouri.
Missouri has now dropped four spots in the AP Top 25 after each loss, falling from No. 14 to No. 18 after losing to Alabama and now No. 15 to No. 19 after losing to Vanderbilt.
The Tigers have a bye in Week 10, but are set to host No. 3 Texas A&M in Week 11 – arguably their toughest challenge of the season yet. They'll also travel to Norman to take on No. 18 Oklahoma for their final game of the regular season. Mississippi State and Arkansas are both winless in conference play and aren't near the Top 25 polls, meaning Texas A&M and Oklahoma could be the last chances for Missouri to claim a ranked victory.
Other schools to receive votes: Iowa with 85, USC 77, Tulane 65, Washington 60, South Florida 24, LSU 19, James Madison 18;,Pittsburgh 15, San Diego State 14, North Texas 11, TCU 7, UNLV 6, Nebraska 4, Arizona State 2, Wake Forest 1, Boise State 1.
The Week 10 Coaches Poll saw the Tigers drop one spot further, this time to No. 20, one spot below the Texas Longhorns. Missouri is the ninth-highest ranked SEC team, and the last to crack the top 25.
Vanderbilt jumped one spot in the Coaches Poll as well, jumping from No. 12 to No. 11 after the hard-fought win over the Tigers.
