The North Carolina Tar Heels could be closing in on a major recruiting win.

Bill Belichick's debut campaign as North Carolina Tar Heels head coach has been nothing short of an unmitigated disaster. We all know that. But it's also just his first season.

We still need to give Belichick some time to get on the recruiting trail, and by all indications, North Carolina's 2026 recruiting class should significantly bolster the roster.

Belichick is far from done, either, as he is making progress in potentially stealing a commit from the Florida Gators: four-star offensive tackle Tyler Chukuyem, via Grace Raynor of The Athletic.

"Things aren’t exactly going well at North Carolina, but one Florida commit is intrigued by Bill Belichick and the Tar Heels. Four-star offensive tackle Tyler Chukuyem, who plays at South Paulding High in Douglasville, Ga., is heading to Chapel Hill this weekend for an official visit when the Tar Heels host No. 16 Virginia," Raynor wrote.

Chukuyem committed to Florida back in June but is apparently still keeping his options open. He initially chose the Gators over Florida State, Ole Miss and Cincinnati.

The Douglasville, Ga. native stands 6-foot-6 and weighs 290 pounds. Should North Carolina pry him away from Gainesville, he would become the UNC's top-rated offensive lineman.

Chukuyem is the 20th-ranked offensive tackle in his recruiting class and the 236th-ranked player in the nation overall, via 247 Sports' composite rankings. He would also stand to become the Tar Heels' sixth top-250 prospect if they are successful in poaching him.

North Carolina is just 2-4 thus far, suffering three blowout losses at the hands of TCU, Central Florida and Clemson. The Tar Heels then lost a heartbreaker to California last week.

Belichick accepted UNC's head-coaching job back in December, marking his first foray on to the collegiate level. He won eight Super Bowls during his NFL coaching tenure, six coming as head coach of the New England Patriots and two coming as New York Giants defensive coordinator.

Obviously, making the jump to the NCAA has been quite an adjustment for Belichick, who has been a lightning rod for criticism this year.

We'll see if North Carolina can pull off the upset against Virginia on Saturday.
