As UNC's basketball season gets underway, it was an impressive opening night for a program that's being overlooked.

UNC comes in as the No. 25-ranked team in the AP Poll entering the season, which is far worse than where it typically stands.

However, games aren't won in preseason rankings, nor are they won during in-season rankings.

All UNC can worry about is going out and playing its best basketball, and it seemingly did that against Central Arkansas in the 94-54 win.

There was a long list of contributors, but I was very impressed with what Caleb Wilson did in his debut.

Wilson was expected to be one of the top players in the nation entering the year, as he stands at 6-foot-10 and was the top 10 overall player in the country coming into UNC.

His first game was perhaps better than anybody could’ve expected, finishing with 22 points in 24 minutes.

Speaking to reporters after the game, it sounds like Hubert Davis was really impressed with what he did, seemingly indicating that he's going to have a massive year for the Blue Devils.

“He brings high energy out there, and you combine that with the lift and athleticism and the giftedness that he has out there on the floor as talented as he is. He’s a kid that is really hungry to learn.

"He’s not somebody that thinks he’s got it all or knows everything. He’s always asking questions, and to have that from somebody is as good as him is pretty rare. And so I was really happy for him. I mean, he did everything, ran the floor, attacked offensive glass, hit a three, drove, he’s a great passer and penetrator. And then I thought he was good on the defensive end in terms of just being able to switch all those actions,” he said, per On3

It'll be interesting to see how Wilson performs against some better teams.

Although no disrespect to Central Arkansas, UNC takes on Kansas on Friday night, so we'll definitely get an opportunity to see the type of player he is against some of the top teams in the nation.

Players like Wilson typically find success, but it's also important to note that with the NIL and transfer portal era, players are older than ever, so he might have some struggles against older competition.
