Yesterday, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish got their first win of the season beating the Purdue Boilermakers 56-30. It was an offensive showcase as quarterback CJ Carr and running backs Jeremiyah Love and Jadarian Price put on a stellar performance. The Irish offense ended the matchup with 535 total yards of offense, both running backs ended averaging over 8.0 yards per carry and Carr finished going 10 of 12 for 223 yards and had two passing touchdowns.
The defense gave up 23 points in the first half to the Boilermaker offense, but they finished the game on a high note only allowing seven points the entire second half. After picking up their first win of the season, Notre Dame is still ranked the No. 21 in the Coaches Poll that was released earlier this afternoon. They remain the only team still ranked in the Coaches Poll with only one win on the season, and will look to put together a win streak as the take on the Arkansas Razorbacks next weekend down in Fayetteville.
The only opponent left on Notre Dame's schedule ranked in the Coaches Poll are the USC Trojans who are now up to No. 22 in this week's poll after beating Michigan State at home 45-31. The Trojans put up 523 total yards of offense behind an extremely efficient performance from quarterback Jayden Maiava. He finished the night 20 of 26 for 234 passing yards and threw for three scores. He also added 31 rushing yards on the night and two rushing touchdowns. As of now, USC will continue to get tested and will face three ranked opponents in a row between Illinois, Michigan and Notre Dame.
BYU and TCU have made their first entrance into the Top 25 in the Coaches Poll. The Cougars beat East Carolina yesterday 34-13 while the Horned Frogs took care of business against SMU at home 35-24. Both teams are undefeated on the season and are making their way to the top of the conference championship contender conversation in the Big 12. There wasn't any movement in the top seven teams in the Coaches Poll; Ohio State, Penn State and Georgia all had bye weeks. LSU, Oregon, Miami and Texas all won their respective matchups in week four.
The Oklahoma Sooners moved up two spots into the top ten after beating Auburn at home 24-17. Auburn dropped out of the Coaches Poll Top 25 along with Utah and South Carolina. Utah lost at home to Texas Tech 34-10 and the Gamecocks lost on the road to Missouri 29-20. The Commodores moved up to No. 20 after beating Georgia State 70-21 and the Red Raiders moved up to No. 14 in this week's Coaches Poll. Indiana moved up to No. 12 after decimating Illinois, who dropped to No. 23, 63-10.
