Always active in the recruiting trail, the Ohio State Buckeyes nabbed four of Ohio's top 10 recruiting prospects in the class of 2025. Tavien St. Clair headlined the group along with tackle Carter Lowe, wide receiver Bodpegn Miller, and running back Bo Jackson.
Both St. Clair and Jackson debuted for the Buckeyes on Saturday against Grambling. While St. Clair did well, Jackson absolutely stole the show.
Jackson finished Saturday’s beatdown with nine carries for 108 yards and a touchdown. He had a second score called back, but he more than belonged on the field. We must consider that he was rushing against Grambling backups, which is certainly not the toughest competition. However, when called upon, he did his job and did it emphatically.
After the game, Ohio State sophomore star Jeremiah Smith was asked what he thought about Jackson. As no stranger to freshman success, Smith raved over him.
“That’s the guy right there. I’ve been saying it since spring: Bo Jackson is next up, for sure,” Smith told reporters after the 70-0 rout. “He’s a tough, tough running back…
"Me and him were working out together in the offseason, and I was like, yeah, this guy is going to be the next great running back to come through.”
Jackson’s burst onto the scene comes at the perfect time for the Buckeyes' offense.
If one position group still has a question mark, it is the running back room. The Buckeyes went on their magical run last year because they had two home-run threats in the backfield. As it stands right now, they simply do not have that.
CJ Donaldson has been exactly as advertised, averaging three yards per carry, but he lacks the explosiveness the Buckeyes are searching for.
Behind him, James Peoples still doesn't seem ready to be the bell cow tailback. In two weeks, he has shown spurts of explosiveness and an ability to be the guy; it just hasn't been consistent enough.
So, as a result, Jackson’s performance in Week 2 might warrant him getting a few opportunities earlier in a game against more stout competition. If Ryan Day agrees with what Smith says, it won’t be long before everyone knows Bo is the guy for the job.
