STILLWATER, Okla. –
The undefeated Cowgirls defended home court and shutdown the Prairie View A&M Lady Panthers, on Tuesday morning, winning 105-55.
The Oklahoma State Cowgirls, led by senior guard, Micah Gray’s 25 points, extended their win streak to five games to open the season. They did so, with ease, against the Prairie View A&M Lady Panthers in an early 11:00AM match on Veteran’s Day. The 50-point win marks the fourth time in five total games that the Cowgirls have surpassed the century mark in point totals.
Following Gray’s game high 25 points, Cowgirl, Haleigh Timmer, trailed close behind with 20. Akot, who recorded her second straight double-double, and Girardi both added 15 points to the Cowgirls total. To add to her double-double, Akot had another impressive shooting day, hitting seven of eight attempts for a hot 87.5% from the field. Oklahoma State’s Lena Girardi and Amari Whiting were more like cow thieves instead of cowgirls, as they both recorded four steals a piece. The Cowgirls, as a team, totaled 19 steals in the contest.
The Cowgirls, as a team, shot 50% from the field and 34.2% from the three-point line, making 13 of 38. Oklahoma State was great on the glass, bodying the Lady Panthers 45 to 30, where 18 of those boards were offensive rebounds. The Cowgirls also dominated the dishes line, posting a 29 to 6 assists advantage over Prairie View A&M.
Prairie View A&M Lady Panther freshman guard, Alana Shields, led her team in scoring with 16 points. The Lady Panthers shot 43.6% from the field but turned the ball over 29 times.
One interesting note from today’s game:
With 4:06 to play in the third period, Cowgirl, Lena Girardi, stole the ball and laid it up and in, bringing Oklahoma State’s point total to 67. The 3,000 fans in attendance went absolutely nuts as they screamed “six seven”. Several of the 3,000 in attendance were elementary students who attended the Cowgirls annual Class At The Court, where local students take a field trip to see the Cowgirls play. The odd Gen Z “Six Seven” trend that has swept the nation continued on in Stillwater.
