Oklahoma State interim head coach Doug Meacham, spoke to the media on Monday, previewing Saturday’s game against the Kansas Jayhawks

Doug Meacham Previews Oklahoma State vs. Kansas - Cowboy Football News Conference (10-27-2025)

Oklahoma State interim head coach Doug Meacham, met with the media, on Monday, ahead of Saturday's contest in Lawrence against the University of Kansas.

To open the press conference, Meacham noted the struggles against Texas Tech and the importance of moving on to the next game against Kansas. Though he mentioned Oklahoma State, defensively, was able to limit Texas Tech’s rushing attack and held the Red Raiders to under 400 yards of total offense, something only Arizona State has been able to do.

Meacham went on to say that the Cowboys are “…going to have an infusion of some freshmen, guys who haven't played, who can play in the last four games but can still garner a redshirt. So we'll get five to seven players out there on special teams and helping us out at times offensively and defensively."

Some of the players to watch for this Saturday:

"Carl'veon Young (Linebacker), I'd kind of like to see him. (Matrail) Lopez, the receiver. Those two guys are very athletic. Carl'veon was at Carl Albert, and he was a high jumper and an athlete. His brother was, at one point, committed here for basketball, I think. Those two guys are long, athletic, young, and two great kids that I look forward to seeing out there, along with a few others."

Doug Meacham also mentioned the morale of the team after a question was asked on positive body language displayed post-Tech, despite getting shutout – “I said a few things, and it got a pretty good response back from most of the unit. There's still some juice there, probably as much now as there was two weeks ago, in terms of what I'm looking at. That's a testament to the kinds of kids we have and what kind of jobs the coaches that are here have done for those guys. Just pushing the message that this is adversity, you're going to go through worse in life, and this is going to train you on how to be prepared down the road…the scoreboard doesn't reflect it, but I'm proud of a lot of the guys on the team. It was certainly a pretty good response postgame considering what occurred on the scoreboard."

Regarding the quarterback situation, Meacham stated that while Sam Jackson V did a great job, he’s “looking forward to the possibility of having him (Zane Flores) around”. Oklahoma State fans should watch the availability report later in the week for further updates on Flores potential return.

Meacham was asked about the coaching returns to Kansas this week. Oklahoma State defensive coordinator, Clint Bowen, has a lot of history in Lawrence and returns to face his former team. "[Clint] will have half of Lawrence, Kansas, there for him, his wife, his family, everybody. His wife was Ms. Kansas, I believe. I know he's juiced to go back there and take a crack at his alma mater."

The press conference wrapped up shortly after a question was asked about where it went wrong for Oklahoma State against Texas Tech. In response, Meacham plainly stated, “I don’t really think I have an answer to that question, a definitive answer, you know?”

Oklahoma State will travel Saturday to Lawrence, Kansas to face the Kansas Jayhawks. Kickoff is set for 3:00PM CT and the game will be shown on ESPN+.
