Oklahoma State pushed past the East Texas A&M Lions, 97-59, recording their second win of the season

    STILLWATER, Okla. -

Oklahoma State’s senior guard, Haleigh Timmer, started the game hot and never let up. Timmer recorded 22 points and the Cowgirls pushed past the East Texas A&M Lions, on Wednesday night, winning 97-59.

Oklahoma State Cowgirls posted a 38-point win against the Lions, but it wasn’t before the East Texas A&M Lions gave Hoyt’s Cowgirl squad everything they wanted in the first period.

The Cowgirls led by just four points at the end of the first period, 22-18. It was a very inefficient quarter for Oklahoma State, which saw a majority of their 11 turnovers. However, Pokes head coach, Jacie Hoyt, would get them back on track almost immediately to begin the second period.

In the second set, the Cowgirls outscored the Lions 23-6. Oklahoma State was able to lock down East Texas A&M, while maintaining defensive integrity. The Cowgirls, as a team, recorded only 13 fouls (compared to their opponent’s 27). They also forced the Lions to commit 17 turnovers and made the most of them, scoring 25 points off turnovers. Oklahoma State also dominated big on the board. The Cowgirls were able to rake in 22 offensive rebounds and 26 defensive rebounds, outrebounding their opponent by 28 total boards.

Oklahoma State’s efficiency from the foul line also greatly contributed to their 38 point win. The Cowgirls went 23-34 from the line, good for 67.6%. Stailee Heard was in charge of most of those, shooting 9-12 from the free throw line, good for 75%.

After only leading by four points at the end of the first period, Oklahoma State outscored East Texas A&M by 34, posting 23 in the second, 29 in the third, and 23 in the final period.

Sophomore guard, Reza Poe, was the lone bright spot for the East Texas A&M Lions. Poe posted 19 points on the evening. Only one other Lion was able to get into double figures, Cora Horvath with 11. Freshman guard, Sarah Gatwech only managed 6 points. This comes after Gatwech posted 23 points in her prior game.

Haleigh Timmer and Stailee Heard led the way for the Cowgirls, posting 22 and 15 respectively. Other Cowgirls, Micah Gray and Amari Whiting both assisted with 13points  apiece. Sophomore guard, Jadyn Wooten, led Oklahoma State off the bench, adding nine points.
