Molly Robinson shares her thoughts on Oklahoma vs. Alabama, as well as the Auburn coaching search

This week’s episode of The Jones Report delivered an in-depth dive into the swirling narratives of the SEC and Big 12 as Week 12 looms large on the college football calendar.

Hosted by Roundtable Oklahoma publisher Tyler Jones and joined by Roundtable Oklahoma State editor Thomas Bridges, the roundtable dissected matchups, coaching searches, and playoff implications with a blend of insider perspective and bold predictions.

The centerpiece of the show? A candid conversation with WJOX Birmingham radio host Molly Robinson, who brought a Crimson Tide insider’s lens to why the Oklahoma Sooners—despite being heavy underdogs—might just have the blueprint to pull off an upset in Tuscaloosa.

Robinson didn’t mince words when assessing Alabama’s vulnerabilities, zeroing in on a run game that has sputtered for much of the 2025 season.

Jones echoed her analysis, highlighting how Oklahoma’s defensive front and a revitalized edge rush—could feast on those struggles.

Adding fuel to the fire, Oklahoma defensive back Eli Bowen publicly expressed frustration earlier in the week over being tabbed as Alabama’s homecoming opponent—a perceived slight that has galvanized the Sooner locker room.

Robinson confirmed that homecoming festivities in Tuscaloosa feel oddly subdued this year. That lack of emotional lift could play into Oklahoma’s hands, especially if the Sooners jump out to an early lead and quiet a Bryant-Denny crowd that has seen its share of nail-biters already this fall.

The conversation wasn’t limited to the gridiron showdown. Robinson offered a tantalizing nugget on the Auburn coaching carousel, where Hugh Freeze’s seat has grown scalding after another disappointing campaign.

“Keep an eye on Tulane’s Jon Sumrall,” she advised. Sumrall’s Green Wave have been a revelation in the AAC, blending a suffocating defense with an explosive, up-tempo offense.

His name has quietly gained traction among Auburn boosters desperate for a culture reset, and Robinson suggested that preliminary outreach has already begun.

Shifting to Stillwater, Jones and Bridges provided the latest on Oklahoma State’s own head coaching search. Early buzz around Atlanta Falcons offensive coordinator Zac Robinson appears to be cooling.

The Cowboys had eyed Robinson’s innovative scheme as a potential spark for a program in transition, but his unit’s struggles in Atlanta—coupled with reported friction between Robinson and quarterback Michael Penix Jr.—have raised red flags.

As the College Football Playoff picture crystallizes, Jones issued a stark warning: a three-loss SEC team faces long odds for inclusion. With Oklahoma squaring off against Alabama and Texas rematching Georgia, both the Sooners and Longhorns are essentially in must-win territory.

A loss would be brutal for their postseason hopes, while a victory could catapult lock them in—provided they handle their remaining schedules.

Over in the Big 12, Texas Tech’s dominant 29-7 thrashing of BYU vaulted the Red Raiders to No. 6 in the latest CFP rankings. Despite sitting outside the top four, Jones and Bridges are bullish on Tech’s first round bye prospects.

The Red Raiders close with winnable games against UCF and a West Virginia squad; a 11-1 record with a head-to-head over BYU would be tough for the committee to ignore.

The show wrapped with a pair of fan-favorite segments. Bryan O’Connor dropped by for Coach Bo’s Football Fix Presented By O’Connor Advisory Group, where he laid out a path for Oklahoma to not only upset Alabama but potentially run the table.

Finally, the panel turned to the NFL, where Jones predicted seismic change in the desert. The Arizona Cardinals, mired in another lackluster season, are likely to part ways with former Oklahoma star Kyler Murray this offseason.

From Tuscaloosa tension to coaching carousel whispers and playoff permutations, this week’s Jones Report served up a masterclass in college football discourse.

As Saturday approaches, one thing is clear: Oklahoma’s trip Behind Enemy Lines might just be the upset script no one saw coming.
