Penn State had a bye week this weekend before its toughest game of the year.

It's been an unfortunate year for the Nittany Lions, and things might only get worse as they're set to take on Ohio State next weekend and Indiana the weekend after. As things currently stand, Ohio State is the top team in the country, while Indiana comes in at No. 2. This will also be the first time that Penn State doesn't have James Franklin as its head coach against Ohio State in 11 seasons, but Ryan Day made sure to give him some love when the firing happened, showing some mutual respect between the programs.

"James, anytime you are somewhere for as long as he has, he did a lot of great things," Day said, per Chase Brown. "We had a lot of great games against each other. He's gonna land on his feet. He's a really good coach."

"But then you got to get back to work. That's the world we live in," Day continued. "It's something that, I think, for all of us, we need to make sure we focus on what matters to us and what's at hand. I said it before, whether it's the negative things or the positive things or things like that, those are all kind of noise out there. ... There's a lot that comes at you, whether you're a player or a coach, our ability to focus and concentrate on what's important is what's critical, so that's what we got to do."

While there’s respect from Day, it's also important to note that if Ohio State has an opportunity to be Penn State by 40 points, don't be surprised if it happens.

Ohio State understands that it wants to be the top team in the country heading into the CFP, and despite Penn State not playing well this year, it'd be a nice resume booster to take down the Nittany Lions. The name still holds weight, so Penn State will have to come out and at least try to be competitive, hoping to keep the Buckeyes away from the No. 1 spot.

It'll be interesting to watch, but as of now, it's tough to see any way Penn State could win this football game.
