At halftime, it seemed like Penn State had a legitimate chance to upset Ohio State on the road.

The Nittany Lions were down 17-14 and had some momentum on their side.

While Ohio State came out in the second half and did exactly what it had to do on both sides of the football, scoring 21 points en route to a 38-14 win, there were a few factors to take away.

For one, it was crucial that Penn State didn't quit on Terry Smith, and the offense continued to try.

However, these were also concerning and typical signs that we've continued to see over the past few matchups against Ohio State.

When we think of a program like Ohio State, it's only fair to mention that it’s done nothing but win at the highest level for much of the past decade.

From top to bottom, Ohio State is elite, but the difference between its wide receivers and Penn State's is night and day.

When speaking to reporters after the game, Smith even admitted that it was something he couldn't even game plan for, saying that Jeremiah Smith and Carnell Tate are the two best wide receivers in the country, and that Penn State had absolutely no chance of covering them.

"They're the two best guys in the country," Smith said, per Chase Brown. "Just watching these guys live — and I don't mean this disrespectfully to the past Ohio State recievers, but these two are better than all of them, and those guys are all good."

"They were outstanding today. We could not cover them."

Throughout the game, it was clear that Penn State didn't have much of an opportunity to slow down either one of them.

That's a bit of a problem, but it's also easy to say that they’re just that good.

The one issue, however, is that Penn State was doubling them at times.

"When I said that about Julian Sayin, I also feel like Carnell and Jeremiah — again, if there's to better wide receivers in the country, I'd like to see them. They deserve to be up for a lot of awards, too."

With many big plays given up, Penn State will have to do a better job moving forward if it wants to win some games towards the back end of the season.

Fortunately, it won't have to worry about those two any longer.
