Connor Long, a 6-foot-8 offensive lineman from Matawan, N.J., said he was "beyond grateful" after committing to Syracuse late Wednesday.

Big offensive lineman Connor Long from Old Bridge High School in Matawan, N.J., announced his commitment to the Syracuse Class of 2027 late Wednesday via Instagram.

“From long nights to early mornings, every sacrifice led to this. I’m beyond blessed to announce my commitment to the University of Syracuse to further my academic and athletic career,” he wrote on his post. “I’m beyond grateful to everyone who’s been part of this journey. Thank you to my coaches for pushing me to be the best version of myself, my teammates for battling beside me every day, my friends for always having my back, and my family for their endless love and support. I wouldn’t be here without any of you. Go orange”

Recruitment for the Orange’s 2027 class is off to a fast start.

The 6-foot-8, 343-pound Long is the seventh commit for Syracuse; the class ranks No. 3 in the nation, according to the 247Sports composite.

Long does not have an individual composite ranking. Of the six other recruits, Tristin Hughes of Rocky River High School in Ohio is a four-star prospect and listed as an athlete.

The remaining five are three-star prospects:

    • Defensive lineman Stanley Montgomery, Archbishop Ryan (Philadelphia)
    • Safety Travis Miles, Hillside (Hillside, N.J.)
    • Athlete Davion Crumitie, Rickards (Tallahassee, Fla.)
    • Athlete Tank White, Melbourne Central Catholic (Melbourne, Fla.)
    • Quarterback Justin Dixon, Concordia Prep (Towson, Md.)

Long was in Syracuse for the team’s game against Pittsburgh on Saturday night.

"Saturday was my second time at Cuse and it felt like I was coming back home," Long told 247Sports. "It felt like the right fit for me and my family. The coaching staff were the first to believe in me and supported me through everything."

His first visit occurred in March.

Wednesday was a big day for the Orange program.

Syracuse also gained a commitment from Alexander Haskell, a three-star defensive lineman in the Class of 2026 from St. Joseph’s Prep in Philadelphia. He originally pledged to Penn State but decommitted on Tuesday, less that two weeks after James Franklin was fired as head coach of the Nittany Lions.
