Texas A&M men’s basketball rolls into Sunday with momentum, confidence, and a massive opportunity.
Bucky McMillan's squad enters the matchup at 7-2, winners of five straight and seeking their third consecutive victory over a power-conference opponent.
Standing in their way is 8-1 SMU, undefeated at home and ranked inside the NET top 50.
This is the Aggies' final power-conference opponent before SEC play, and potentially their first Quad 1 win of the season.
A victory would give A&M a jolt heading into conference action. A loss would be classified as Quad 2, still respectable but short of what the Aggies hope to build.
Texas A&M comes into the game with four players scoring in double digits, led by Ruben Dominguez at 15.9 points per game.
Rashaun Agee has become a force on the glass, averaging 7.9 rebounds and posting 17 and 13 boards in his last two outings. Rylan Griffen, Josh Holloway, and Jacari Lane each contribute 3.3 assists per game, giving the Aggies balanced ball distribution.
But to beat a top-50 team on the road, the scoring depth must rise.
That means Mackenzie Mgbako and Pop Isaacs stepping into bigger roles. Both can take over games, and A&M can't rely solely on Dominguez's hot shooting to bail them out every night.
Defensively, the Aggies face one of their biggest tests yet.
SMU's backcourt is electric, with Boopie Miller averaging over 20 points per game and Jaron Pierre Jr adding more than 17. A&M's defensive plan hinges on two things ... forcing turnovers and guarding the perimeter.
That combination fueled their last two wins and will be crucial again Sunday.
A victory in Dallas would not only extend A&M's win streak to six but also solidify its early-season momentum with a quality win before SEC play begins.
Texas A&M has a chance to make a statement — now they just have to seize it.
