A freshman wideout ignited a furious comeback, scoring the crucial touchdown that sparked an unimaginable Aggie victory and emotional teammate reactions.
No. 3 Texas A&M walked into halftime down 30-3 to South Carolina, looking cooked, exposed and about five minutes from every "overrated" take in America.
Instead, the Aggies ripped off 28 unanswered points and stole a 31-30 win to stay undefeated, thanks in no small part to a redshirt freshman who had barely touched the field all season.
With leading receiver Mario Craver less than 100 percent and limited to one catch for six yards, Izaiah Williams was thrown into the fire.
Coming into the game, his entire 2024 resume was one catch for 15 yards. Against South Carolina, he tripled his production and then some with three receptions, 50 yards and his first collegiate touchdown in the middle of a furious comeback.
Williams officially announced himself on A&M's first drive of the second half. Down 30-3 and needing anything positive, Marcel Reed hit Williams on a 27-yard strike to put the Aggies on the board and flip the energy inside Kyle Field.
"I almost cried," Ashton Bethel-Roman said about Williams' touchdown. "I almost cried when he scored, I was so happy for him. I know he's been you know it's rough when you're playing football, you going to practice every single week, but you might not be getting what you think you deserve or whatever the case may be."
By the end of the night, Williams finished third on the team in receiving yards behind KC Concepcion and Bethel-Roman, both of whom lit up the second half.
"Zay's always been a great player," Reed said. "You know we have a lot of talent in the room and you know we have a lot of depth ... anybody goes down, there's somebody else to step up so really proud of him, he made plays."
On a night when Texas A&M looked dead in the water, a redshirt freshman wideout helped jump-start the comeback and reminded everyone just how nasty this receiver room really is.
