Texas baseball keeps finding big-game answers, and Dylan Volantis just delivered one of the loudest statements of the Longhorns’ season.
Volantis was named SEC Co-Pitcher of the Week after carving up Mississippi State with a career-best 12 strikeouts across six scoreless innings.
In a crucial conference matchup, the Texas right-hander allowed only three singles and gave the Bulldogs almost nothing to build on.
That performance didn’t just win Volantis another honor. It reinforced his growing reputation as one of the most dangerous arms in college baseball.
The Longhorns’ pitching staff followed his lead, finishing with 19 strikeouts in the game. That tied the program record for the most strikeouts in a nine-inning contest, turning the afternoon into a showcase for Texas’ postseason ceiling.
Volantis’ move from the bullpen to the rotation has looked almost effortless. After starring as one of the nation’s top closers last season, he’s become a front-line starter with ace-level production.
Through 62.2 innings, the Westlake High product owns a 1.87 ERA with 92 strikeouts while holding opposing hitters to a .189 batting average.
He has also set career highs in wins, starts and innings pitched, giving Texas exactly the kind of high-end reliability every contender needs.
The Longhorns have made a habit of collecting SEC weekly honors this season. Temo Becerra, Sam Cozart, Ruger Riojas and Anthony Pack Jr. have also earned conference recognition, showing the depth of a roster built for a serious run.
