The University of Washington football team is finally getting some national attention after a tough 24-20 comeback win against Maryland on Saturday afternoon in College Park, Md.
The Huskies, who are 4-1 on the campaign, with their only loss coming against No. 1 Ohio State, are now receiving votes in the latest AP Top 25 Poll.
They are one of nine Big 10 teams to at least receive votes, including Ohio State (1), Oregon (3), Indiana (7), Michigan (15), Illinois (17), Penn State (UR), Nebraska (UR), and USC (UR).
The Huskies trailed 20-3 at the start of the fourth quarter before rallying with 21 unanswered points. Star quarterback Demond Williams Jr. went 28-for-41 for 275 yards and two touchdowns. The team ran for 118 yards with Williams scurrying for 54 and Jonah Coleman registering 57. Coleman scored another touchdown. He now has 10 rushing touchdowns and 11 total scores, and both lead the nation.
Washington will have a quick turnaround this upcoming week, as they'll next play on Friday at Husky Stadium against Rutgers. That game will kickoff at 6 p.m. PT. Following that, they'll be on the road at Michigan.
Those two teams met in the 2023 National Championship Game, with Michigan defeating the Huskies. That game was the last one that Michael Penix Jr. played at Washington, and it was also the last game that Kalen Doboer coached at U-Dub, before he went onto replace Nick Saban at Alabama.
