The San Francisco 49ers’ offense struggled to find consistency in their 27-17 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday, and the latest Pro Football Focus (PFF) grades reflect that perfectly. Between a patchwork offensive line and a group of receivers fighting through injuries, there were bright spots, but also some glaring issues.
Leading the way was right tackle Colton McKivitz, who earned an impressive 81.8 grade over 69 snaps, one of his best showings in a 49ers uniform. McKivitz was one of the few linemen to hold up well in pass protection, even on a day when the offensive line gave up six sacks. His steadiness on the right side was a rare positive amid a game full of offensive breakdowns.
At wide receiver, Kendrick Bourne continued his hot streak, posting a 75.4 PFF grade after hauling in five catches for 142 yards. Bourne was one of the only consistent offensive weapons for San Francisco, repeatedly giving Mac Jones a reliable target downfield. Tight end Jake Tonges also graded well at 73.5, showing improved blocking and solid contributions in the short passing game.
Demarcus Robinson (72.7) and Trent Williams (71.0) rounded out the top performers on offense. Robinson made the most of limited snaps, while Williams, “ole reliable”, played another tough, efficient game protecting Jones’ blindside.
However, the struggles were evident elsewhere. The lowest offensive grade belonged to center Jake Brendel (51.5), who had a difficult day against Tampa Bay’s interior pressure. The Bucs’ defensive line consistently disrupted San Francisco’s rhythm, collapsing the pocket and limiting the run game.
Jauan Jennings, who returned from injury, posted just a 52.2 grade. It was later reported that Jennings was playing through multiple broken ribs and an ankle sprain, which makes his effort alone noteworthy. Still, his lack of burst and timing were clear, and it’s fair to wonder if he should’ve been held out another week.
Veteran Kyle Juszczyk (52.8) and wideouts Marquez Valdes-Scantling (56.9) and Skyy Moore (57.0) rounded out the lower performers. The 49ers’ supporting cast struggled to create separation or maintain blocking lanes, leading to stalled drives and missed opportunities throughout the afternoon.
Overall, the 49ers’ offensive grades tell the story of a group decimated by injuries. While Bourne and McKivitz did shine, the unit as a whole continues to search for their rhythm. As the losses pile up, San Francisco’s depth is being tested in ways few teams could endure.
