The Chicago Bears are riding high after an incredible 25-24 win over the Washington Commanders on Monday Night Football.
The game came down to the leg of kicker Jake Moody, who was moved up from the practice squad just hours before kickoff to relieve Cairo Santos, who had been ruled out with a quad injury. Moody made 4-of-5 field goal attempts and went 1-of-1 on extra points.
Chicago's defense continued to make things happen, with two fumbles and one interception. One of the most crucial takeaways was when Jayden Daniels fumbled the ball in the fourth quarter, as the Commanders were trying to ice the game late.
The fumble recovery with 3:07 left gave Chicago all the time it needed to put the game on Moody's foot.
At the post-game presser, head coach Ben Johnson was honest. He noted how the team succeeded in all three phases but definitely didn't play its cleanest game of the year.
"It was a really good team win here," Johnson said. "That's a really good opponent we went against in a very hostile environment. I thought all three phases came through for us when needed. It was not our cleanest game. We had a number of mistakes, and penalties were an issue, but once again, our team was resilient, and they found a way to win. So, very proud of them."
The Bears were able to pass and run the ball with success. Quarterback Caleb Williams finished with 252 passing yards and two total touchdowns. The team ran for 145 rushing yards as a whole, with D'Andre Swift leading the pack with 108 on the ground.
Swift also had a massive 55-yard touchdown reception in the fourth quarter to make it 24-22.
Chicago's rush defense was able to hold the Commanders to 124 total rushing yards, its second-lowest total since Washington's 27-18 loss to the Green Bay Packers. The Commanders were limited to 51 yards on the ground in the loss to Green Bay.
After consecutive weeks with a 25-24 win in dramatic fashion, the Bears are now 3-2 and look ahead to the 1-5 New Orleans Saints. New Orleans recently lost 25-19 to the New England Patriots.
Chicago will look to keep its win streak going after an 0-2 start to Johnson's tenure.
After a three-game road stretch, the Bears return home to Soldier Field to face the Saints at noon CT on Fox on Sunday.
