Despite competing for the same job, Cairo Santos and Jake Moody have a solid relationship with the Chicago Bears. This highlights the exceptional culture under head coach Ben Johnson.

The Chicago Bears had to make a tough choice ahead of the Monday Night Football matchup against the Washington Commanders.

Longtime kicker Cairo Santos was ruled out due to a quad injury and the team decided to bring up Jake Moody from the practice squad. The decision paid off for the Bears, as Moody hit a 38-yard game-winning field goal in a 25-24 victory that now has the team at 3-2.

There were some questions whether or not Moody would be the kicker longtime, but head coach Ben Johnson silenced them by stating that Santos would still kick if healthy.

While both are competing in the NFL, the relationship between Moody and Santos could not be better, according to Gabby Hajduk of ChicagoBears.com. Moody shared that Santos has been very helpful since he joined the Bears.

"Cairo's been awesome," Moody said. "Prior to me knowing that I was going in, we had this cool relationship where I could try to help him in any way that I could when he was playing, and then when it came time for me to play, he switched it to he was gonna help me out in whatever way he could, so it's been a great relationship. He's a great guy to learn from — 12-year vet, been here six or seven years now. I wouldn't have it any other way."

The former San Francisco 49ers kicker excelled on Monday Night Football, ending with 4-of-5 field goals made.

Unfortunately for fans who wanted to see Moody in a more consistent role, that will depend on the injury reports released in the next few days. Santos was listed as did not practice on Wednesday's injury report, but that doesn't mean that there isn't a chance for him to still play in Sunday's contest against the New Orleans Saints.

Santos has more experience than Moody thus far, playing in the NFL since 2014. He has been with the Kansas City Chiefs (2014-17), Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2018), Los Angeles Rams (2018), Tennessee Titans (2019) and Bears (2017).

We will have to keep a close eye on the injury reports coming out in the next few days to determine which player will suit up at kicker for Chicago in Week 7.

Either way, the Bears will kick off against the 1-5 New Orleans Saints on Sunday in a homecoming of sorts for defensive coordinator Dennis Allen. Allen was the head coach of the Saints from 2022-24.

The game kicks off at noon CT on Fox.
