Chicago Bears head coach Ben Johnson went the podium on Monday and offered some injury updates for a couple of players.
The Bears won 26-14 over the New Orleans Saints on Sunday but left the game with some injuries to cornerback Tyrique Stevenson and tight end Cole Kmet. Both Stevenson and Kmet have played in every game so far this season.
Johnson revealed that Stevenson and Kmet were more day-to-day and week-to-week at his Monday press conference, via Marquee Sports Network's Scott Bair. Stevenson suffered a shoulder injury, and Kmet suffered an injury to his back.
Stevenson has had a productive start to the year, accounting for 25 total tackles, one forced fumble, one interception and one tackle for loss. Kmet is sixth on the team with 132 receiving yards and one touchdown. He is the team's leader in tight end receiving yards, although rookie Colston Loveland is not too far behind, with 78.
Chicago will need all the help it can get in case Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson comes back from his hamstring injury. Jackson has been out since Week 4, but head coach John Harbaugh has been iffy on Jackson's status.
Heading into the bye week, Harbaugh seemed confident that Jackson would play.
"Our quarterback will be back." Harbaugh said.
Fast forward to this week, and he was hesitant to say whether Jackson would be ready in time.
“I think all the guys are working really hard to get back,” Harbaugh said Monday. “We’ll see who’s back and who practices on Wednesday. I don’t really want to comment on any individual guys.”
Baltimore is 1-5 heading into Sunday's game with the Bears. In Jackson's absence, the Ravens have relied on backup quarterback Cooper Rush, who has 251 passing yards and four interceptions in the two games he's started. Rush was ultimately benched for Tyler Huntley in the 17-3 loss to the Los Angeles Rams in Week 6.
When healthy, Jackson is one of the toughest quarterbacks to stop. He has 869 passing yards, 166 rushing yards, 11 total touchdowns and one interception in four games played this season.
The early betting lines for Sunday's game are leaning towards Jackson's return. ESPN BET has the Ravens as 6.5-point favorites, despite Baltimore having a worse record than Chicago.
Chicago fans will have to wait and see what the status of Jackson is for the game. Kickoff will be at noon CT on CBS.
