The status of Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson has been a topic of discussion heading into Week 8's contest with the Chicago Bears.
Jackson has not played since Week 4 after suffering a hamstring injury. When healthy, he has thrown for 869 passing yards, 10 touchdowns and one interception. He has also run for 166 rushing yards and one touchdown.
ESPN's Dan Graziano thinks Jackson will not be playing on Sunday against the Bears. He believed that the fact that Jackson didn't participate in Monday's practice following the team's bye week was a sign that he wouldn't be playing.
He expects Jackson to return from injury the following week, when the Ravens face the Miami Dolphins in Week 9.
"I don't believe it's a sure thing that Lamar Jackson returns from his hamstring injury to play against the Bears on Sunday," Graziano said. "Jackson has missed the past two games, and the Ravens have been hoping he could return after their Week 7 bye. But they held a post-bye-week practice Monday, and Jackson did not take part in it. I've had a couple of conversations with people familiar with this situation that led me to believe Jackson might miss another game while recovering from the injury and return in Week 9 against the Dolphins. Keep an eye on the injury reports over the next couple of days for signs one way or the other. Monday wasn't an official practice, so the Ravens weren't required to issue an injury report."
Baltimore head coach John Harbaugh had two very different answers about Jackson before and after Monday's practice. Heading into the bye week, he was exuding confidence that the quarterback would be playing the Bears.
"Our quarterback will be back," Harbaugh said.
However, the head coach changed his tune on Monday, and wasn't as sure about Jackson's status.
"I think all the guys are working really hard to get back,” Harbaugh said Monday. “We’ll see who’s back and who practices on Wednesday. I don’t really want to comment on any individual guys."
Chicago is waiting to see the status of a key starter on the defensive side of the ball, with cornerback Tyrique Stevenson nursing a shoulder injury coming into the week. Head coach Ben Johnson said that Stevenson was day-to-day and week-to-week at this point.
All eyes will be on the injury reports heading into the matchup. Sunday's game kicks off at noon CT on CBS.
